Warm the winter blues with a festive comedy at The Russian Resurrection Film Festival

As part of their monthly film series, the Russian Resurrection Film Festival is set to bring winter comedy Yolki – The Final Countdown to Australian cinemas on August 11, 2019.

Aiming to bring the best of Russian cinema to Aussie audiences, The Russian Resurrection Film Festival hopes to give people the chance to view films they otherwise would not have the opportunity to see.

Russian Film Festival Director Nicholas Maksymow explained that Russian cinema has played a pivotal role in the history and influence of cinematography.

“Australia is one of the most developed multicultural societies in the world,” Nicholas stated.

We have seen an increase in the wider Australian community supporting the festival. Australians, for instance, who like foreign films and art-house films also support the festival.

Nicholas Maksymow also said that Russian films are ultra-realistic, which helps them stand out to other films because they usually centre around story lines and scenarios that audiences can relate to.

“Russian films make you think, long after the movie has ended,” Nicholas reflected.

“[Yolki – The Final Countdown], even though it has some very funny moments throughout the film, it also brings with it a sense of sentimentality.”

Viewers are left feeling a touch sad for the characters in the film; the funny scenes are juxtaposed with sentimental scenes.

The comedic film from Timur Bekhmambetov follows the lives of five different characters whose stories link together to create quirky yet hysterical adventures. A friend moving away, a McDonald’s salesgirl losing the man of her dreams, a man trying to propose to the woman of his dreams and a widowed pensioner seeking forgiveness from his son.
